Each sorority at Indiana University is complete with unique women from all different backgrounds. Each chapter has its own sense of diversity and individuality. However, you will notice a common bond among the members of each chapter that is also unique and private. This bond of sisterhood is alive and strong in each of our twenty-two organizations.

Sisterhood is bonding together in love and in friendship, while striving for similar goals. Being a part of a sorority is something that cannot be compared to anything else. To know of its existence is one thing, but to experience it is another. The women of these organizations are bonded through the values their individual organizations were built on. The sisterhood built in these organizations is unique and comes together in a community that supports each member and chapter.

Big Little Reveal

A well-known part of sorority sisterhood is the Big Little Reveal. Big Little Reveal is a special and exciting event for sorority members. It is when the big reveals her identity to the little. A big is short for “big sister” and she is an initiated sorority woman who acts as a mentor to the little or “little sister.” The purpose of the big little relationship is to give littles someone they can ask questions and help them ease into their transition into the college sorority life. A big strives to be a role model for the little.

Initiation

An important part of sorority sisterhood is initiation. Initiation is ceremony when new members become official members of their sorority. Initiation includes ritual that was typically written by the founding members of the organization. During initiation, new members will learn about secret information regarding the organization that is only revealed to members of the sorority. The unique ritual creates a bond that sorority women cherish forever.
