Denim Day 2023

*TW SEXUAL ASSAULT*

Denim Day is a campaign in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The campaign began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wear tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. In support of the victim, the female members of the Italian Parliament showed up to work the following day wearing jeans. Peace Over Violence developed the Denim Day campaign in response to this case and the activism surrounding it. Since then, a local initiative to raise awareness of victim blaming and harmful stereotypes surrounding sexual violence has developed into a movement. We wear denim in support of all sexual violence victims. We see you, we hear you, and we stand with you.
